An educational component for the Main Street Safe Streets Project. The Stick utilize green community concepts to improve the urban design of a pedestrian oriented commercial street. Sustainable concepts announce themselves, not allowing the passer by to figure it out on their own. Clear like the air, the stick catches and refracts light, recharging itself by day using the clean energy of the sun, then lighting itself at night (Energy is abundant – Its source should have a minimal impact upon the environment). The QR code provide links to additional resources or informational videos. The singular experience of a stick is education and information. Should more be installed, the experiential procession from Stick to Stick would emphasize the rhythm of the street experience. One of several project concepts, walking the procession provides health and environmental benefits. The goal is to create a green corridor which highlights good practices that contribute towards carbon reduction. Behavioral changes due to awareness of carbon emissions and climate change can result in large reductions. This not only informs and educates, but may influence change along other city streets and the communities they serve.
